Michael Pointsett
On October 9, 2021 Michael Poinsett lost his battle with Covid-13 and left us to join the Lord who he had served so well. Mike was a devoted and tireless worker in so many leadership and ministry projects at Risen Savior Lutheran Church and prior to that at St Andrews Lutheran Church. He especially loved helping to organize and working on ministry efforts in our local community. Whenever a ministry project came up, Mike was the first to say “Count me in”. We received $1570 at Risen Savior in memorial funds for Mike and in memory to him are allocating them to some local ministry programs that Mike was passionate about and so diligently supported.
Mike loved Christmas and every year diligently worked and supported the LSSI Christmas family project so we allocated $600 for Christmas families plus we have a Thrivent Action Teams to add another $250.
Mike was also passionate about helping kids at camp and working and helping at Lake Luther, Ice Cream Social fundraisers, etc for many years. We allocated $600 to Lake Luther which will also receive a matching $600 from a Lutheran Foundation matching fund program.
Mike was always an advocate for those in our community experiencing struggles in their life. As an Army veteran he was always in favor of supporting programs benefiting veterans. One of the veteran projects supported by Risen Savior is Lutheran Military Veterans and Families Ministries in Fort Wayne. We allocated $375 to this project in Mike’s memory and will supplement it with a Thrivent Action Team to add another $250 for a January 2021 project. As part of their Annual Ornament Appeal, LMVFM selected and tagged a one-of-a-kind Christmas tree ornament, made by a veteran, with Mike’s name on it in his honor was placed on their Christmas tree and will also be featured on their website and face book page.
Helen Poinsett said Mike would love these ideas and especially adding action teams and matching funds to add another $1100 for these ministries. We are reminded of how many projects like these Mike worked so diligently on at Risen Savior and how much we miss him and in future projects may we be reminded to follow his mantra “Count Me In”.
